US Common Sense |
|
US Common Sense was a Stanford-based nonprofit dedicated to opening government data and resources to the public, developing data-driven policy analysis, and educating citizens about how their governments work. In 2010 Matt cofounded the group as California Common Sense with Joe Lonsdale and Nate Levine, their vision to protect the state's fiscal future. The organization's research was featured in almost every prominent news source in the country.
To educate the public about the nation's expenditures and revenues, USCS created interactive data transparency tools that showcased detailed data from state and federal entities. The tools included financial data for most states around the country, enabling citizens to make apples-to-apples comparisons.
The organization became the most comprehensive source for visualizations of data pertaining to federal, state, local, and county government. Through the data transparency portal, USCS released policy analysis and promoted more effective and efficient governance, showing how state and federal governments could offer their services for billions less. |
